My Current Diet

As of November, 2002, I eat a diet which is almost exclusively Paleolithic, and which is from 78% to 85% raw -- this is what works best for me, and gives me the best energy and sense of well-being. However, I did eat a 100% raw RVAF diet for my first 1.7 years or more on this diet, starting in about April 2000. I have always, since starting a largely-raw Paleo diet, drank quite a bit of water each day, taken some nutritional supplements (mostly antioxidants, minerals and trace minerals), and used a small amount of salt. Other than a pasta dish once per two weeks, and tiny amounts of breads, I never deviate much from Paleo or near-Paleo foods in my diet. A technical purist might say that juicing green vegetables is not a Paleo act,  but it remains true that the starting veggies are totally Paleo, and that juicing simply makes available far more nutrients. I do eat small amounts of raw cow dairy (small amounts of cream and butter, and moderate amounts of raw cheeses, especially smelly, ripened, aged, raw organic cheeses with a moldy rind) or raw goat dairy. One could point out, as I do on my raw dairy page on this site, that raw cow dairy is not really a Paleo food, but rather entered the diet rather late in our history. However, I am a pragmatist -- small amounts of raw cow dairy work well for me much of the time. It is true that some dairy -- from goats, sheep and yaks -- entered the human diet in the late Paleolithic era, but it is true that cow dairy did not enter the human diet until far later.
One of the most frequent questions I receive is: "What do you eat?" or "Can you give me a sample menu for one day in your life?" The section below attempts to answer those questions!

Donations and Support for this Website

This freely-offered educational website has been totally self-supported by the author, Vinny Pinto, since its inception (and many of my websites were started between August 2000 and June 2003). While I offer the content on this website freely, as a gift to all from my heart, it is quite obvious that not only did my research in these realms (and also my training, including formal education, that allowed me to offer this material in the first place) incur costs, but there are also monthly and yearly costs associated with web hosting, domain registration, etc. As you have likely noticed, I have chosen not to accept any advertising on any of my websites. As a result of all of these factors, any funds that you might choose to donate toward supporting my research work and this site will be very much appreciated.

Thus, I am seeking donations to help me to support this site -- even two dollars helps! If you wish to donate, you may do so by using your credit card, ATM card, debit card, or transfer from your bank account, via fully secure means. To make a donation, please go to the Donations and Support page! All transactions are secure; in all cases, you get to choose the donation amount!

Current Version: My Diet During the Last Half of  2002:
As of July 2002, my largely- RVAF diet has changed significantly significantly again since the last updates from early 2002, December 2001 and June 2001 (all reproduced, for your convenience, on this page below)  My current diet is almost entirely Paleolithic, and largely-raw, with the exception of a modest amount of cooked meat about 3X per week, yielding a diet which is 82% or more raw (by weight), and vaguely similar to my diet as of early 2002. I now eat even smaller amounts of raw dairy, and while I continue to eat  raw eggs daily, I eat raw fish only 2 times per week, on average, and eat raw meat or organ meat only once or twice per week at most. Like many long-term RVAF eaters whom I know, I have found that I needed to add a small to modest amount of cooked meat (or fish) to my diet to keep my energy levels up, to avoid undue and frequent fatigue and light-headedness, and dizziness. Here is an overview and sample menu for a typical day. Please bear in mind that:

  • at least 82% of foods are raw. About every other day, in addition to my RVAF foods, I also now eat some cooked beef or chicken or perhaps turkey sausage, sometimes with a raw tomato sauce.
  • all meats and eggs are organic and pasture-fed free range (except the turkey, which may be natural only, at times)
  • all fish is wild-caught, rather than farm-raised
  • I also sip water throughout the day in addition to my larger water "meals"
  • I take nutritional supplements, as I always have, but far less than in the days before eating a largely-raw Paleo diet... Some few RVAF systems, notably the Primal Diet, disapprove of taking nutritional supplements. To learn more of my views and practices in the area of nutritional supplements and raw diets, please see the page on this website entitled Some Notes on Nutritional Supplements in Raw Diets
  • I continue to use small amounts of salt. Some few RVAF systems, notably the Primal Diet, disapprove of using salt in most foods and situations.
  • If eating bread, I try to eat only a very well-fermented sourdough bread. I believe, as do many other Paleo diet eaters and RVAF diet eaters, that deep-fermentation sourdough yields a product which is radically changed from the original processed (milled and cleaned) wheat, and far more healthful for my body.
  • When I eat fruit, it is usually durian, berries or bananas; sometimes persimmons, sometimes  watermelon
  • I usually eat the meat plain but sometimes cover it with a tomato homemade sauce (tomatoes, onions, EV olive oil, garlic, in blender)
  • the sample menu below is a sample only; there is actually quite a bit of variance day-to-day
